Recovery

Recovery is like a roller coaster.... one day it's up up up and the next taking the plunge to the bottom. The doll has had her ups and downs. This surgery was no joke. I can't imagine the pain she must be in, but sometimes she seems fine. the nights are the worst. I think during the day she is distracted from the pain and she is able to move about more than she can in her bed. We've been home bound except for last night. We were treated to a FABULOUS dinner made with love by the Peanuts. It was nice to get out, but maybe a little selfish. I think WE were ready to get out of the hosue, but Libbie was NOT. She did okay, but she wasn't herself. This week we'll be staying in. The weather is perfect for snuggling by the fire and watching Christmas movies.
The girls were glued to the television... Mickey's Christmas was playing...

Hoot finally slowed down enough to decorate his room.

He likes to do it himself... with an audience for encouragment

These are my favorite ornaments. they are hand painted wooden drummer boys... I bought a lot of them at a churhc gargage sale before I had Hoot for $1.00...

I think he placed every large tartan ornament on one side at the bottom... nice

We don't always wear our underwear when we deck the halls... he just happened to get in the mood after his Sunday morning bath. Were usually in such a hurry to get out the door for church on Sundays... he decided to lounge most of the morning in his undies...

The bean bag has come in handy for Libbie

It's the perfect height to sit at the table and keep her foot elevated.

She enjoys Legos as much as Hoot

Successful Surgery

We're home! Thank you for all the prayers and e-mails of encouragement. something is not right with my blog. Many have told me they can't leave comments... not sure what the problem is, but I have had the same trouble trying to comment on other blogs as well. The surgery went just as planned. The staff at Shriners blew away our expectations. I can't not express just how amazing the people are! From the guard at the garage gate to the surgeons... they are truly an awesome team. We were treated like royalty the moment we arrived (5:00AM). We had a very sweet visit with a dear friend while Libbie was in surgery. I am not one that likes to make hospital visits and I hate to admit that. Her visit with us was so very special and blessed us beyond words. Stopping in to pray with a patient or loved one truly touches the heart. She also brought a DELICIOUS dinner later in the evening and we enjoyed another good visit. I am blessed. Thursday I was blessed again when two dear friends from church showed up and took Libbie for a walk in the wagon which allowed me to TAKE A SHOWER AND BRUSH MY TEETH!!! It's funny how dirty I felt just from sitting around. It was like a SPA experience to stand in the hospital bathroom and let the luke warm water trickle (literally) over me! I guess they don't want patients going crazy with a blast of hot water. (could be a safety hazard for sure) While we were there the hospital celebrated their annual Christmas Tree lighting and visit from Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Libbie was one of five other patients at the hospital the night of the celebrations. (most surgeries are out patient.) The staff escorted us down to meet Santa before the crowd lined up and she got to sit on his lap. Hoot didn't get to sit on his lap but afterwards one of Santa's helpers hand delivered a Lego set to him which made his day. He knew it had to be the real Santa because who else would know how he loved Legos?!? Libbie did great and is home recovering. She is a little trooper. The pain meds must be good because she is her spicy little self after less than 24 hours home... I'm soooo not sure how were going to keep her off her feet for 18 weeks~! I was feeling a Little discouraged about the road to recovery when my dad brought me back to reality with these words... "aren't you glad you don't have to go back to work on Monday and you can stay home with her?" YES I AM!! I can sure get ungrateful fast. I am so thankful that I can be with her 24/7. We are so very blessed.

She's pretty loopy here right before they took her back. Our docotr explained the procedure once again.

Lambert prayed with the team right before they went back. The last words the Doctor said to us before they went back was, "we will take care of her like she is our very own" Pretty comforting
DSC02738
As soon as she opened her eyes she asked for Daddy! and as soon as she saw him, she started crying. the nurse said she was very brave until she saw her daddy. i remember being strong when I was little until I saw my dad. The tears always flowed when I knew I could be weak because he was there and he would be strong. This melted my heart.

She chose the pink cast the day before surgery. I wanted her to pick red for the holidays... but she likes her pink!

Insanity

It's a crazy busy time right now in the life of me...Wednesday the Doll got her first haircut... PRECIOUS. She did great. She acted like a pro in the chair. we made a whirlwind of a trip to Dallas for Thanksgiving, which was a lot of fun! The kids had a ball. The weather was nice and the food was great. I am thankful... We returned home Friday due to Lambert's work schedule. I decorated a house Saturday and had the kiddos in tow... The photos below give a pretty accurate account of Thanksgiving Day... Saturday night we took the littles to visit Santa at the Galleria. I was expecting a LONG line of naughty and nice littles but to my amazement there was only one family ahead of us in line... what happened to photos with Santa??? Maybe it's the $25.00 price tag that goes with the visit. The boys visited the Lego store and then we had dinner at P.F. Changs... Yummy.I have been wiring ribbon and hanging ornaments until my hands are raw, but I love it. Spencer our Elf on the Shelf arrived last night and Hoots behavior improved immediately (not that he isn't always well behaved). I have one more house to do tomorrow morning and then I head to Shriners with the Doll for her pre-op visit. Earlllllly Wednesday morning she will have her first foot surgery. We'll be at Shriners for a couple days and then we'll return home for a six week recovery. FUN... after 6 weeks, she'll have her second surgery and then another 6 week recovery. Hoot starts basketball tomorrow... can't wait to see him play his first game. So with all that said, I am off to do more laundry and get ready for our big day tomorrow and bigger day Wednesday. Did I mention how busy we are these days??? Does laundry EVER end?? I feel like I wash/fold/press and then repeat in a vicious cycle.

We started the Thanksgiving weekend with fresh hair cuts for the kiddos!

My friend cuts hair from her home so it was play time with the girls after her cut. Hoot got to go on his first go-cart ride with his new best friend. He'll never want to go to Sports Clips again!

The littles donned the name "Team Turkey" this year... even Libster participated. She had no problem getting her hands dirty!

After prepping the turkey the kiddos (well the parents of the kiddos) each received an I-Pad II for an early Christmas gift. We won't all be together for Christmas so gifts were given early... we had no idea we were getting I-Pads... Look at the hi-jacking that took place. These kids were I-Pad PIRATES

DSC_6737
Hoot looks a little nausiated and the doll is really not sure what's going on. She knows he has candy and she's wondering when she will receive it!
The Lego store was next
Hoot decided he should add this to his list
